The bridge crosses the Balsemão Valley at height of 110m and comprises two parallel six span box girders in prestressed concrete with a total length of 460m each. These were cast “in situ” in 5.00m segments using the balanced cantilever method.
The piers have a maximum height of 73m with hollow rectangular variable cross-section shafts in piers P2 and P3 and a constant cross-section in the remaining piers. The cross-section widens laterally at the top. The foundations are direct on the schist bedrock.
Construction was completed in 1998.
