Laje Brook and Grande da Pipa River Viaduct

A10 Motorway – Bucelas-Carregado | Portugal | 2006

The right deck is a fifteen span box girder, with a total length of 1319m, and the left deck a fourteen span box girder 1279m long.

The decks were cast “in situ” in 5 meter segments using the balanced cantilever method.

The piers have a maximum height of 50m with hollow, rectangular constant cross-section shafts.

The foundations are direct on bedrock except for piers P9 and P12 where they are indirect on 2,0m diameter piles.

This viaduct is located in an area with a high potential for seismic activity.

Construction began in October of 2004 and was completed in November 2006.
